Sweetwater County Solid Waste Disposal District #1 was created to oversee the landfills in Rock Springs, Reliance, Superior, and Point of Rocks, Wyoming.
The Rock Springs Landfill is an award winning facility. In a span of 8 years Rock Springs has been awarded two first-place and three second-place awards in the statewide landfill contest sponsored jointly by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and the Wyoming Solid Waste and Recycling Association. Awards are based on a facility's compliance with operational standards, accurate recordkeeping, and overall appearance.
Sweetwater County Solid Waste Disposal District #1 is a special taxing entity that was created in 1977.
The District is authorized to assess a maximum 3-mill tax levy to support its operations.
The Goal of the Board of Directors of SWCSWDD #1 has been to
manage the District efficiently, and at the same time minimize the cost
of operation for the taxpayers.
The major focus of the District is operating the Rock Springs Landfill,
they also provide funding to the Ray Lovato Recycling Center.
Sweetwater County Solid Waste Disposal District #1 Board meets the 2nd Monday of each Month at the Rock Springs Housing & Development Office 233 C Street , Rock Springs, WY at 5:30 pm.
Board members are appointed by the Sweetwater County Board of Commissioners.
Sweetwater County Solid Waste Disposal District #1 is a member of the Wyoming Solid Waste and Recycling Association (WSWRA). The WSWRA is an organization of operators, managers, engineers, industry professionals and volunteers dedicated to the planning and management of solid waste and recycling programs within the State of Wyoming.
